Windows 10 (b2004) migration schedule for IT Dept

Dear colleagues,

In the context of the new Windows 10 life-cycle, as announced at ITUM-31, we need to align Windows 10 builds, and update schedule, CERN wide, in order to:

- Reduce the fragmentation and limit the number of different Windows 10 build versions we have to support onsite

- Continue to get system and security updates by using a supported build of the operating system

Windows 10 build 2004 (May 2020) is now available for IT department since several weeks, and we need your help to review this update before we roll it out progressively to the whole CERN in the coming weeks.

The process is very similar to monthly patches deployment: We will deploy the update tomorrow, Wednesday 21th October using CMF with a forcing date of Wednesday 28 October @ 17h30 followed by the possibility to postpone the installation for another 3 days.

Until that, feel free to launch the installation at the best moment for you starting tomorrow, by clicking on the CMF icon at the bottom right of your screen and selecting ‘Start Now’ in CMF Pending actions.

installation may require one or several reboots and usually takes between 45 and 60 minutes on decent hardware, during which time the machine(s) cannot be used.

Simply lock your session when you leave the machine.
Documents, programs and settings will be preserved, even in case of a failure in the update process.

If you have specific constraints preventing you from updating, or if you need help to perform this upgrade, please contact us:

Thanks in advance for your help,

Sebastien Dellabella on behalf of the Devices and Application Provisioning team.
